November Speaker - Derek Devitt  "TRIVIA"

               Wine and Cheese 

A Pickering Resident for almost thirty years, Derek retired in 2018 after a 45 year career as an insurance broker. Upon retiring he embarked on achieving a long held personal ambition of attending university and so commenced studying for a BA at York University. He graduated with a Major in History in 2022 and shortly after that joined Probus.

Derek hosted his first Quiz Night for family and friends on New Years Eve, 1999, celebrating the eve of the new millennium, and the tradition continues to this day. During the Covid lockdown in 2021 and 2022 he organized several Zoom Quiz Nights which provided housebound contestants with a forum of connectivity as well as a fun event.

Derek and his wife Florence started hosting a monthly Probus General Knowledge Quiz in October 2022 and since then the event has attracted a knowledgeable and competitive audience. Questions are drawn from various sources such as Popular Culture, Current Affairs, Culinary Arts, Politics, History and Geography. The competition is based on a team format with a premise that -

You may not know all the answers, but you will know some, and your teammates will hopefully know the rest.
