September Speaker - Dr. Andrea Kirkwood

We are very fortunate to live in a community that has easy access to natural settings. In the past few years our natural settings have been damaged, destroyed or even disappeared. Dr. Andrea Kirkwood is a professor at the Ontario Technical University in Oshawa and her research focuses on aquatic ecology in a variety of systems including ponds, wetlands, rivers, lakes and wastewater systems. Dr. Kirkwood’s work includes research in Lake Scugog, and the impact of development on the headwaters of Duffins and Carruthers Creek. This research is important and you can get involved! Dr. Kirkwood encourages retirees to become “citizen scientists”! Please join us in September when she presents ‘Senior Citizens as citizen scientists: How participatory research can improve our understanding of lake health’.
